Toddler
Children at this early preschool age learn by doing and our classrooms are designed for students to explore. Sensorial materials teach them about the world. The practical life choices help them develop skills such as pouring, opening and closing, and stringing—skills providing the satisfaction of accomplishment while developing fine motor skills, hand/eye coordination, concentration, and independence. Games and activities prepare children for mathematics. And everything is conducted in a safe, nurturing, language-rich environment.

Toddler Experience
Toddlers Love to Go
MSR’s youngest students greet friends, select their works, and go. They may choose to create art or work puzzles, serve themselves a snack, measure, pour, go for a walk, or — perhaps the most important of all — practice patience. They are exploring their world and learning how they — as real people, not babies — fit into it. They are our toddlers, children so young, age is still measured in months, and they are busy.
The Real World
Look into our Toddler classroom and you will see the real world. The materials and works are real, natural, and appropriately sized for children of this age. Everything invites a conversation and the teachers engage the young students in real discussions to foster their curiosity.
Development
With this age child, everything is real — the imagination develops later. This is why real things—plants, dishes, art materials—are readily available in the classroom. Our classrooms have one of each material, so patience and waiting to take a turn are skills that are learned at an early age. Where sharing can lead to a false sense of entitlement, patience guides them to conflict resolution.
