English/Humanities Teacher Middle/Upper School

The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks a full-time teacher to teach English and/or Humanities in the middle and upper school beginning in August of 2019. The successful candidate will partner with a cohesive educational team that collectively ensures the delivery of a rich and rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. This position will include advising a group of 8-12 students as well as participating in trips and extracurricular activities.

MSR is a co-educational school with students from 18 months old through 12th grade, on 48 acres and two campuses. The middle and upper school campus was established 20 years ago and a new upper school building is set to open in August of 2019. MSR was founded in 1974 and remains true to its mission to develop independent learners, critical thinkers, collaborative leaders, and courageous explorers through the internationally recognized Montessori philosophy.

Essential qualifications: creative, energetic, warm personality, and good organizational skills. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with administrators, parents, students, and co-workers. An understanding of and belief in Montessori methodology and philosophy is essential. MSR is accredited by AMS, AdvancED, and the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Responsibilities
Teach English and/or Humanities to 7th-10th grade students
Advise students
Lead or support clubs, intersessions, and other extracurricular activities
Chaperone trips, both nationally and abroad

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in the content area (advanced degree preferred)
At least 5 years of full-time teaching experience in English and/or Humanities instruction.
Commitment to the integration of disciplines
Ability to contribute to the middle and upper school community through clubs, intersessions, trips, and other extracurricular activities.
