Studio Descriptions

Music Studios:

ALL Music studios are a year long commitment, no students will be able to enroll in a music studio halfway through the school year. If students wish to discontinue the studio, the teacher and studio director must be contacted.

The Music Studios will start: September 11th and break for the holidays on December 15, 2017. They will resume on Monday January 8, 2018 and continue to May 4, 2018.

UE Chorus is available to any UE students who are interested in joining a performing group at MSR. Chorus is more challenging than UE General Music and offers more performance opportunities to students who enjoy singing as an ensemble. Chorus will meet from 7:45-8:30 on Mondays in the Music Room and perform several times throughout the year: UE Band/Chorus Winter Concert on November 29th @ 6:30; Band/Chorus Spring Concert on May 23rd @ 6:30 and Grandparents & Special Friends Day on May 11th at 9:00AM.

Piano I PM I Studio is available for 1st-5th graders with no previous experience, or for students who enrolled late in piano studios from the previous year. This class is designed to expose students to the early concepts of playing the piano. The students will learn about proper posture, correct hand positions, early music theory such as reading music for both hands and simple rhythm identification. The year will end with a recital on May 2nd, which will give the students an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

Piano II AM Studio is available to students that have successfully completed one full year in MSR’s piano studio program or who have had at least one year of private instruction. The class can accommodate students ranging from 2nd grade to 6th grade. This class is building on the concepts learned in the first year. The students will continue to expand their knowledge of music theory, rhythmic study and the learning of new and challenging music. The year will end with a recital on May 2nd, which will give the students an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

Beginning Band is available to any current 5th or 6th grade students who are interested in joining an instrumental performing group at MSR. Beginning Band gives students the chance to learn a wind or brass instrument: Clarinet, Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium or Saxophone. Beginning Band will meet from 3:00-3:30PM on Wednesdays and 7:45-8:30AM on Fridays in the Music Room will perform twice throughout the year: UE Band/Chorus Winter Concert on November 29th @ 6:30 and Band/Chorus Spring Concert on May 23rd @ 6:30. This studio is open to students who have no previous experience learning their chosen band instrument.

Intermediate Band is available to any student who has completed a year of Beginning Band in the previous school year. Intermediate Band is the second level of instrumental instruction and will focus more on reading notation and more complex ensemble playing than UE General Music and offers more performance opportunities. Intermediate Band will meet from 7:45-8:30 on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Music Room and will perform several times throughout the year: UE Band/Chorus Winter Concert on November 29th @ 6:30; Band/Chorus Spring Concert on May 23rd @ 6:30 and the Fall and Spring Pep Rallies.

Ukulele
The ukulele is a fun,easy,and highly portable instrument to play. This course aims to quickly move students toward playing songs they know and love, while building skills along the way. Students will first learn the basics of how to hold,tune,and strum the ukulele. Then they will learn how to make cords and read tablature. This is also a great bridge instrument for students who want to eventually learn guitar. Ukuleles will be provided.

Students will learn all aspects of golf, while advancing through a 5 level program. Body and Brain Yoga
Maximize your child’s brain potential through Power Brain Education. The PBE program consists of physical, emotional, and cognitive exercises designed to improve focus, creativity, memory, confidence, stress management, and physical health. Through fun mind-body activities and movement exercises, children gain self-esteem, emotional control, and physical wellness. Activities include stretching, memory/focus games, meditation, creative movement, and drawing.
