Camps are for all Elementary and Middle School students unless stated otherwise. That includes Rising 1st years through Middle School.

Español: Lingua y Mas…Language and More (Spanish Camp) (9am – 1pm)
Students will develop basic Spanish conversation skills as well as gain exposure to the culture via food, dance, and sports.

Exploring Civil Engineering (9am – 1pm)(Rising 2nd – 5th grade)
Discover firsthand the exciting world of civil engineering! Learn which shapes are the strongest and
how to survive an earthquake. Design and construct towers, bridges, and cantilevers, and explore the
forces of tension, compression, torsion, bending, and shear. If you like to build, this class is for you!

Amazing Athletes Training Academy (1pm – 4pm)
The Training Academy is a non-competitive sports-based cross training program designed to keep older children active and engaged through advanced physical fitness challenges and interactive sports skills lessons. Individual physical abilities can vary significantly within this age group, so we are careful to make sure each class is still taught with progression. Each Training Academy class integrates strength training, speed & conditioning, advanced partner-based motor-skill training activities and team-based endurance challenges.

Exploring Chemistry (1pm – 4pm)(Rising 2nd – 5th grade)
Discover firsthand the exciting world of chemistry and chemical engineering! Experiment with acids and
bases and learn how to make a pH indicator out of simple household ingredients. Make invisible ink,
create bubbles, explore the amazing properties of polymers, learn how to identify chemicals, and use
the power of science to investigate a crime scene and find the culprit. If you like things that fizz and

Week 2: June 17-21

Manners (9am – 1pm)(Rising 1st – 4th grade)
Manners for the modern child. Learn manners as they apply to today’s society while revisiting lost arts like hand writing thank you notes and flower arranging. We will prepare food and enjoy opportunities to apply manners while eating together.

I Hear a Hook: Intro to Rap (1pm – 4pm)
Students will explore the rich roots of rap, study its elements (beat, flow, speed, etc.) and create original 8 bars over a dope beat.

Kids Just Want to Have Fun (All Day, 9am – 4pm)
This camp is for all those kids who love the snack bar, playing arcade games and winning cheap plastic prizes and for the parents that don’t really want to take them there. Bring some pocket money, get on the bus and have some FUN! We will travel to places like Chuck E. Cheese’s, Adventure Landing, Monkey Joe’s, the movie theater, bowling and Emerald Point or King’s Dominion. Be warned! There will be sugary snacks and cheap plastic chotchkies!
Laura Morrison ($400)

Outdoor Adventures with Greg Dahlin (2-Week Camp) (All day, 9am – 4pm)(June 17-21 & 24-28)
Come along on a dynamic experience that will inspire and challenge the adventurer in you. Greg is an experienced outdoorsman, naturalist, and a trained wilderness first-responder with a passion for connecting young people to the wonders of the natural world. During this 2-week program, participants will engage in backcountry and primitive skill work and will plan a 3 or 4 day wilderness adventure to apply and extend their learning in our own North Carolina mountains. The length and details of the trek will be determined by the goals, experience levels, and abilities of the group. Teambuilding and outdoor leadership work, as well as vital skill work and planning, take place during both weeks. Students will have an opportunity to learn about essential backpacking gear and equipment, Leave No Trace ethics, shelter, fire building, backcountry cooking, wilderness first aid, hiking and orienteering, natural history and mountain ecology, and they will experience first-hand the natural wonders of our home state. All interested participants must therefore attend both weeks before heading out on our mountain adventure. This program is open to students ages 10 and up. Space is limited, so please sign up early.

Intro to Optics – Photography Camp (9am – 1pm)
Students will learn the basics of photography, become aware of their eye/lens and discover how to make this interest a passion and this passion a marketable skill. Materials needed: A digital camera or a smart phone.

Scrapbooking (All day, 9am – 4pm)
Here is a chance to get all of your pictures together and put them in your own scrapbook. We will be creating a book of memories to last a lifetime. Bring in your pictures of past vacations, family holidays, even the family pet, and we can create a place to keep them in a personalized book. We will be taking a field trip to a local store one day to get inspiration, ideas and materials if needed. You are welcome to bring a camera and we’ll make new memories of our week together.

Elementary Theater (1pm – 4pm)(ALL Elementary ages welcome)
Join us for fairy tales, folktales, and fun in the Theater Suite! There will be dress up, art, and face painting! You will experience the full production of a play and perform on the last day of camp.

Card Making (All day, 9am – 4pm)
Students will be able to make their own “all occasion card” collection that will be used all year round. A variety of techniques and materials will be used as well as learning how to use the Cricut machine, giving your cards a professional look.

The first day of actual school will be a breeze!

Middle School Survival Camp (All Day, 9am – 4pm) (Rising Seventh Graders and NEW students)
This summer camp offers a taste of what our Middle School program is all about. If your child is a little anxious about moving up and out to the “other” campus, this camp will ease the transition and help him/her feel comfortable and right-at-home in their new learning environment! We will have a week-long middle school simulation experience. Your child will learn valuable study skills such as how to use a planner effectively, helpful homework tips, and note-taking techniques. Mini lessons will be taught in all of the middle school subject areas: English, Humanities, Spanish, Math and Science. We will delve into the mysterious world of advisors, and intersessions and occupations…oh my! Afternoons will be filled with art, music, drama, and cooking opportunities.
